vegan sushi for breakfast
We are an art collective of two called Vegan Sushi for Breakfast, both graduated from the Lebanese University's Institute of Fine Arts.
Jeanine (El Khawand) then completed a masters in visual arts and Myra (El Mir) is currently working on her PhD in Gender and Sexuality Studies. We work on participatory projects that translate research through art.
We also founded a feminist art space (Space27) in Beirut.
One of our projects, Albi Ay! Ay! is an immersive participatory multimedia installation in the form of a party! it is based on the work of Maha Abdul Wahab, a local forgotten sex-positive singer/composer from the 60's. It questions our understanding of "traditional values", how our society has constructed a more conservative approach to sex, and how we talk about sexuality today in art and pop culture.
Albi Ay! Ay! was showcased in Beirut, Bergen and New York.
